5 Asr : پنج عصر : Panj e Asr is a 2003 Iranian film directed by Samira Makhmalbaf. The cinematography for this film was done by Meysam Makhmalbaf, Samira's 14-year-old sister. Prior to the production of "Panj e Asr," Samira's sister, Hana Makhmalbaf, also made a documentary called "Joy of Madness," which documented the process of actor selection and pre-production for this film.

"Panj e Asr" is Samira Makhmalbaf's third feature film, following "The Apple" (1998) and "Blackboards" (2000). It received critical acclaim and won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003, as well as the Ecumenical Jury Prize.

Plot Summary The film tells the story of a young girl named Negar, whose father is an extremist with Taliban-like beliefs. In a society where women are confined to their homes and denied even the most basic human and social rights, her father aspires to become the President of Afghanistan.
